Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI)

Introduction

Gender equality and inclusion (GEI) are crucial for social justice, human rights, and economic development. However, many researchers lack the knowledge and skills to incorporate GEI into their work, leading to gender-blind research and the exclusion of vulnerable groups. This course aims to address this gap by providing training from a gender and inclusivity perspective, emphasizing intersectional approaches and focusing on various forms of inequality and discrimination.

Course Objectives
By attending the Gender Equality and Inclusion training course, you will be able to:

• Grasp a common understanding of gender
• Discuss and gain a conceptual clarity on gender roles, gender division of
• labor, power dynamics, gender needs, and gender equality and equity
• Understand the scope and applications of social inclusion
• Enhance your capacity in social systems, the status of women, the youths, and PWDs in existing systems
• Participants will be taken through the key elements of social inclusion
• To build capacity on tools that enhance GESI implementation

Training Methodology

This course will utilize a variety of proven adult learning techniques to ensure maximum understanding, comprehension, and retention of the information presented. Includes stimulating presentations supporting each of the topics, together with interactive trainer-led sessions of discussion.

There will also be practical sessions where participants can practice and experience course-related activities. Practical and fun exercises, short video presentations, small group work, and feedback will be used to facilitate learning.

The Alardi Africa GEI research training course is open to all junior and senior researchers, students, university staff, research and civil society organizations, government and private sector research departments, and staff of research funders and multilateral agencies. Topic 5: GEI Perspectives in Democratic and Inclusive Governance
